We are seeking a motivated Lifeguard to join our team supporting an NZDF facility in Ohakea.

Whether you're already an experienced lifeguard or a confident swimmer looking to build your skills and qualifications, this is a fantastic opportunity to join a supportive team where safety, service, and teamwork are at the heart of what we do. Training support may be available to help you gain industry-recognised lifeguard and first aid qualifications.

As a Lifeguard, you'll play a vital role in ensuring all pool users enjoy a safe, welcoming, and positive experience while helping maintain high operational and safety standards across the facility.

About the Role

As a Lifeguard, you will be responsible for monitoring pool activities, identifying and managing risks, and responding appropriately to incidents when required. You'll help maintain a safe environment for pool users while ensuring the facility remains clean, well-presented, and operating to required standards.

Working closely with both PAE and NZDF personnel, you'll contribute to the day-to-day operation of the facility, providing excellent customer service while ensuring compliance with pool safety procedures, regulations, and health and safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor swimming activities and maintain a safe environment for all pool users
  • Maintain a high level of vigilance, alertness, and situational awareness
  • Supervise activities to ensure compliance with PoolSafe policies and facility rules
  • Identify and assess risks and take proactive action to prevent incidents
  • Respond to emergencies and provide assistance when required
  • Maintain pool cleanliness and monitor water quality standards
  • Complete routine housekeeping and cleaning duties throughout the facility
  • Report maintenance requirements, damage, hazards, incidents, and near misses
  • Control and maintain pool equipment, consumables, and allocated stores
  • Welcome visitors and provide professional customer service
  • Verify facility access requirements and maintain user registers
  • Support health and safety compliance for staff and pool users
  • Participate in an on-call roster as required

What You'll Bring

  • Previous lifeguard experience would be advantageous, but is not essential
  • Confidence in and around water with strong swimming ability
  • Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate (desirable)
  • Current First Aid Qualification (desirable)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent situational awareness and attention to detail
  • A proactive approach to safety and risk management
  • Resilience, flexibility, and a positive attitude
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn
