We are seeking an Airfield Mower Operator to support the safe and efficient operation of airfield and outdoor environments at RNZAF Base Ohakea.

About the role

This is a hands-on role responsible for maintaining runways, taxiways and surrounding airfield environments using tractors, ride-on mowers and grounds maintenance equipment. Excellent communication is paramount.

You’ll work within controlled operational environments, coordinating with air traffic control and contributing to safety, site presentation and operational readiness.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Carry out routine ground’s maintenance including mowing, trimming and weed control
  • Maintain airfield surrounds to required operational and presentation standards
  • Coordinate airfield access and activities with air traffic control and site personnel ]
  • Operate tractors, mowers and grounds equipment safely and effectively
  • Identify and report hazards, debris and maintenance issues across the site
  • Complete maintenance records and support reporting requirements
  • Maintain tools, equipment and work areas in a safe and operational condition

 

What we’re looking for

  • Experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping or outdoor work environments
  • Experience operating tractors, mowers or similar equipment
  • Ability to work safely in active and controlled environments
  • Strong communication skills and ability to follow operational instructions
  • Full NZ Driver Licence and ability to obtain security clearance
  • Reliable, proactive approach with a focus on quality and safety
