Building Supervisor

For over 30 years, PAE has partnered with the New Zealand Defence Force, delivering facilities and asset management services that keep critical environments working and moving. It’s a relationship we’re incredibly proud of, reflecting the trust placed in us to deliver—every single day.

As a proudly iwi-owned organisation, we recognise our role as kaitiaki – guardians of the environments and communities we support. We are committed to building strong, respectful partnerships grounded in manaakitanga.

We are seeking a Building Services Supervisor to lead our building maintenance team at RNZAF Base Ohakea.

This is a unique opportunity to take ownership of building infrastructure and facilities maintenance activities that support one of New Zealand’s key Air Force bases. Leading a team of skilled tradespeople and coordinating subcontractors, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring buildings, assets and environments are maintained to high standards, enabling the base to operate safely and effectively.

Whether you’re an experienced supervisor looking for your next challenge or a senior tradesperson ready to step into your first leadership role, this is an opportunity to grow your career while making a meaningful impact.

About the role

As Building Services Supervisor, you’ll provide day-to-day leadership, technical guidance, and coordination across building maintenance and refurbishment activities.

You’ll be responsible for delivering both planned and reactive maintenance, supporting minor works and refurbishment projects, and ensuring all activities meet safety, quality, and compliance standards. You’ll work closely with operational teams, subcontractors, and NZDF stakeholders to drive efficient, high-quality outcomes.

This is a hands-on leadership role combining people leadership, technical oversight, and operational accountability.

What you’ll be responsible for

  • Leading, mentoring, and developing building trades personnel and support staff
  • Coordinating planned and reactive building maintenance activities
  • Overseeing carpentry, refurbishment, painting, and minor works delivery
  • Managing subcontractors, suppliers, and resources to ensure efficient service delivery
  • Supporting workflow coordination, job prioritisation, and maintenance planning
  • Ensuring maintenance activities meet safety, quality, and compliance requirements
  • Monitoring site presentation and building condition
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance records, reporting, and system updates
  • Building strong working relationships with NZDF stakeholders and customers
  • Driving continuous improvement and operational excellence across the team

What we’re looking for

  • A trade qualification in carpentry, building, or a related discipline
  • Experience leading teams within building maintenance or facilities environments
  • Strong knowledge of building maintenance practices and workflows
  • Understanding of relevant legislation, standards, and compliance requirements
  • A practical leadership style with a strong focus on safety and quality outcomes
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong planning, organisation, and problem-solving ability
  • A current NZ Driver Licence
  • The ability to obtain and maintain NZDF site clearances

We recognise that great leaders don’t always come with a supervisor title. If you’re a senior tradesperson ready to take the next step in your career, we’d love to hear from you.

Why this role

  • Step into a leadership role within a unique Defence environment
  • Lead essential building and facilities maintenance services
  • Work with a skilled team delivering critical operational outcomes
  • Enjoy variety, autonomy, and genuine responsibility
  • Be part of a business that empowers its people to make decisions and drive outcomes
