We're looking for a Water Compliance Technician to join our team at Waiouru Military Camp.
This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in managing drinking water, wastewater and stormwater systems across one of New Zealand's largest Defence estates.
Working at the intersection of operations, compliance and environmental stewardship, you'll help ensure critical water systems remain safe, compliant and fit for purpose while supporting military operations and the wider camp community.

About the role
You'll support the management and regulatory compliance of drinking water, wastewater and stormwater systems, helping ensure obligations under the Water Services Act, Drinking Water Quality Assurance Rules and other regulatory requirements are met.
The role combines compliance management, monitoring, reporting, stakeholder engagement and operational support, making it ideal for someone who enjoys solving problems, working with data and contributing to meaningful environmental outcomes.
What you'll be responsible for
- Supporting compliance across drinking water, wastewater and stormwater systems
- Managing water quality monitoring, reporting and compliance records
- Supporting sampling, inspections and maintenance programmes
- Assisting with incident management and emergency response activities
- Maintaining compliance documentation and management plans
- Supporting reporting to NZDF, councils and regulators
- Analysing data and identifying emerging risks and trends
- Working with operational teams, regulators, iwi and other stakeholders
- Supporting continuous improvement across Three Waters systems
What we're looking for
- Qualification in Water Management or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Experience in Three Waters operations, compliance, environmental management or water quality
- Understanding of drinking water and environmental compliance requirements
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management capability
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to build positive working relationships across a range of stakeholders
- Full New Zealand Driver Licence
- Ability to obtain and maintain NZDF security clearance
