Compliance Officer - Waiouru

For over 30 years, PAE has partnered with the New Zealand Defence Force, delivering facilities and asset management services that keep critical environments working and moving. It's a relationship we're incredibly proud of because it reflects the trust placed in us to deliver every single day.

As a proudly iwi-owned organisation, we recognise our role as kaitiaki, guardians of the environments and communities we support, and we are committed to building strong, respectful partnerships grounded in manaakitanga.

We're looking for a Compliance Officer to join our team at Waiouru Military Camp.

This is a pivotal role that sits at the centre of compliance management across one of New Zealand's largest and most unique Defence estates. From Building Warrants of Fitness (BWOFs) and statutory inspections through to environmental, contractor and security compliance, you'll help ensure critical obligations are met, records remain audit-ready and compliance risks are identified before they become issues.

If you're someone who enjoys bringing order to complexity, working across multiple stakeholders and ensuring nothing falls through the cracks, this could be the opportunity for you.

About the role

As Compliance Officer, you'll provide oversight and coordination of compliance activities across a wide range of operational areas, ensuring certifications, inspections, licences, permits and records remain current, auditable and compliant.

Working closely with operational leaders, subcontractors and site stakeholders, you'll support safe, efficient and compliant operations through strong systems, accurate documentation and proactive coordination.

You'll play a key role in protecting operational continuity and supporting the delivery of services across a large and diverse Defence environment.

What you'll be responsible for

  • Coordinating Building Warrant of Fitness (BWOF) requirements, specified system inspections and statutory certifications
  • Managing 12A certificates, inspection schedules and compliance programmes
  • Maintaining asbestos registers, fire compliance documentation and building compliance records
  • Coordinating plant, equipment and electrical compliance activities, including statutory inspections and certifications
  • Supporting environmental, hazardous substance and security compliance requirements
  • Maintaining subcontractor compliance, prequalification and certification records
  • Coordinating audits, inspections and corrective actions
  • Monitoring compliance risks and identifying emerging issues before they become problems
  • Maintaining compliance data within our job management and asset management system (MRI)
  • Preparing compliance reports, dashboards and performance information
  • Working with operational teams to ensure compliance obligations are understood and met
  • Supporting continuous improvement of compliance systems and processes

What we're looking for

  • Experience in facilities, asset, property or compliance coordination
  • Knowledge of BWOF administration, statutory inspections or building compliance requirements
  • Understanding of plant, environmental, contractor or security compliance requirements would be advantageous
  • Strong organisational skills and exceptional attention to detail
  • Experience managing records, certifications, audits or compliance programmes
  • The ability to coordinate multiple priorities and stakeholders simultaneously
  • Strong communication and relationship management skills
  • Confidence working with systems, reporting and documentation
  • Experience using Microsoft 365 and operational systems
  • A proactive mindset with a focus on identifying and resolving issues early
  • Ability to obtain and maintain NZDF security clearance

Why this role

  • Help keep one of New Zealand's largest Defence estates compliant
  • Work across building, plant, environmental and security compliance
  • Influence operational outcomes through proactive compliance management
  • Variety, autonomy and genuine responsibility
  • Join a business focused on continuous improvement and operational excellence
