Health and Safety Advisor

For over 30 years, PAE has partnered with the New Zealand Defence Force, delivering facilities and asset management services that keep critical environments working and moving. It’s a relationship we’re incredibly proud of because it reflects the trust placed in us to deliver, every single day.

As a proudly iwi-owned organisation, we recognise our role as kaitiaki - guardians of the environments and communities we support and we are committed to building strong, respectful partnerships grounded in manaakitanga.

We are now looking for an experienced Health and Safety Advisor to join our team at Waiouru Military Camp.

This is a hands-on role supporting operational teams across a large and complex Defence environment, helping drive safe work practices, proactive risk management, and continuous improvement across the site.

About the role

Working closely with operational leaders, subcontractors and NZDF stakeholders, you’ll provide practical health and safety advice and support across day-to-day operations, maintenance activities and project works.

This role is highly visible and operationally focused—you’ll spend time in the field engaging with teams, identifying risks, supporting investigations, coaching leaders, and helping ensure health and safety systems are practical, effective and embedded into everyday work.

What you’ll be responsible for

  • Providing practical health and safety advice and coaching across the site
  • Supporting proactive hazard identification and risk management
  • Conducting site inspections, audits and workplace observations
  • Supporting investigations, corrective actions and reporting
  • Assisting with contractor management and permit processes
  • Supporting wellbeing initiatives across operational teams
  • Delivering toolbox talks, inductions and health and safety training
  • Building strong working relationships with operational teams and NZDF stakeholders

What we’re looking for

  • Experience in health and safety advisory roles
  • Knowledge of NZ health and safety legislation and compliance requirements
  • Experience within facilities management, infrastructure, construction or operational environments
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • A practical, solutions-focused approach with the ability to influence others
  • Experience with audits, investigations and risk management processes
  • A current Class 1 Driver Licence
  • The ability to obtain and maintain NZDF security clearance

Why this role

  • Opportunity to work within a unique Defence environment
  • Highly visible role with real operational impact
  • Diverse work across safety, wellbeing and operational support
  • Relocation and potential housing support may be available
  • A business that values practical thinking, collaboration and continuous improvement
