Environmental Advisor

For over 30 years, PAE has partnered with the New Zealand Defence Force, delivering facilities management services that keep critical environments working and moving. It’s a relationship we’re incredibly proud of because it reflects the trust placed in us to deliver, every single day.

As a proudly iwi-owned organisation, we recognise our role as kaitiaki - guardians of the environments and communities we support and we are committed to building strong, respectful partnerships grounded in manaakitanga.

We are now looking for an Environmental Advisor to join our team at Waiouru Military Camp.

This is a diverse and hands-on role supporting environmental compliance, sustainability initiatives, heritage stewardship, and oversight of critical local Three Waters infrastructure across one of NZDF’s largest and most unique operational sites.

About the role

Working closely with operational teams, NZDF stakeholders and external agencies, you’ll help ensure environmental responsibilities are managed effectively across the site.

From monitoring consent conditions and supporting environmental investigations, through to contributing to sustainability initiatives and heritage protection, this role offers genuine variety and visible impact.

You’ll also support oversight of water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure across the Waiouru site.

What you’ll be responsible for

  • Supporting environmental compliance and reporting obligations
  • Assisting with oversight of Three Waters infrastructure both on camp and for Waiouru township
  • Maintaining environmental registers and systems
  • Supporting audits, investigations and corrective actions
  • Providing environmental advice to operational and project teams
  • Supporting heritage and culturally significant sites
  • Building positive relationships with iwi, regulators and stakeholders
  • Supporting sustainability and continuous improvement initiatives

What we’re looking for

  • Experience in environmental management, compliance or sustainability
  • Knowledge of water, wastewater or stormwater infrastructure is desirable
  • Understanding of environmental legislation and regulatory requirements
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • A practical, solutions-focused approach
  • Experience within infrastructure, facilities, construction or similar environments will be highly regarded
  • The ability to obtain and maintain Defence security clearance

Why this role

  • Diverse role across environment, heritage and infrastructure
  • Opportunity to support a large and operationally significant NZDF site
  • Potential housing opportunities available to support relocation
  • A business that values practical thinking, autonomy and continuous improvement
