Technical Writer

At PAE, we support some of New Zealand’s most important infrastructure including our long standing relationship with the New Zealand Defence Force. We’re a national facilities management provider, known for being practical, responsive, and focused on keeping our customers’ worlds working and moving.

We’re currently delivering a significant transition programme across multiple NZDF sites. With new contracts and changes in delivery, there’s a real need to capture how work is done and make sure that knowledge is clear, consistent, and easy for teams to pick up from day one.

That’s where this role comes in.

We’re looking for someone who can take how things actually work on the ground and turn it into clear, practical documentation that others can follow. You’ll work closely with operational leaders and site teams to understand processes, make sense of different approaches, and turn that into structured, usable documentation. Along the way, you’ll identify gaps, inconsistencies or risks and help tidy those up.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Developing SOPs, manuals, work instructions and other key operational documents
  • Working directly with subject matter experts to capture and validate information
  • Turning complex or inconsistent processes into something clear and practical
  • Identifying gaps, duplication, or risks in existing documentation
  • Supporting site transitions so teams can hit the ground running
  • Applying consistent document control and quality standards

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience in technical writing, documentation, or a similar role
  • Strong ability to simplify complex information without losing meaning
  • Confidence working with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Good organisation and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • A practical mindset someone who focuses on what will actually work on the ground
  • A class 1 Licence and the ability to travel to our operational sites around New Zealand

Experience in operational, facilities, engineering or service environments would be helpful, but not essential.

This is a fixed term role through to November 2026 and a chance to be involved in something that has real impact across multiple sites.

If you’re someone who enjoys bringing structure to messy situations and producing work that people actually use, we’d be keen to hear from you.

In return for your skills and experience we offer the opportunity to take ownership of an interesting piece of work, where you're expertise will be valued.
