The Role
We’re looking for a skilled Mechanical Fitter to join our team at Woodbourne Air Force Base. You’ll maintain, repair, and install mechanical plant and equipment, ensuring everything from heating and water systems to heavy machinery operates safely, efficiently, and to the required standard. It’s practical, hands-on work that keeps critical Defence operations moving.
What You’ll Do
Carry out scheduled and reactive mechanical maintenance across a range of systems and equipment.
Fabricate, install, and test components to meet operational requirements.
Support mechanical projects, inspections, and improvement initiatives.
Maintain workshops, tools, and equipment in a safe, tidy condition.
Manage and account for materials used in maintenance and project work.
Participate in on-call and after-hours response rosters as required.
Work collaboratively with your supervisor, contractors, and other trades to meet contract KPIs and ensure customer satisfaction.
What You’ll Bring
Trade qualification as a Fitter (or equivalent mechanical trade experience).
Proven experience maintaining or repairing mechanical systems, ideally within a facilities or industrial environment.
Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills, with a safety-first approach.
Good communication and teamwork — you know how to get things done without fuss.
A practical, organised mindset and pride in quality workmanship.
Current Class 1 driver’s licence.
Ability to obtain necessary client clearances, including Ministry of Justice and NZ Defence Force security checks.
