Grounds Person

Love the outdoors? Handy on the tools? Help us keep a critical Defence site shipshape.

We’re looking for a reliable, practical, and hard-working Grounds Person to join our team in Papakura. If you’re someone who thrives on fresh air, physical mahi, and being part of a tight-knit crew that gets the job done then read on.

At PAE, we’re the people who make sure the places that matter keep working. From Defence Force bases to Antarctic support operations, we’re behind the scenes ensuring everything runs smoothly. Our work at Papakura supports the New Zealand Defence Force, and the grounds team plays a vital role in keeping the base safe, tidy, and ready for action.

What the job involves:

  • Mowing, trimming, planting, and general grounds upkeep
  • Helping plan seasonal and monthly maintenance schedules
  • Looking after tools, vehicles, and gear so they’re always ready to go
  • Spotting ways to improve things and sharing ideas with the team
  • Working safely, reliably, and professionally — every single day
  • You’ll be outdoors, active, and making a visible difference at a site that matters.

What you’ll bring to the table:

  • Some experience in grounds, gardening or similar (or just a great attitude and willingness to learn)
  • A full NZ driver’s licence
  • The ability to pass security checks (Ministry of Justice and NZDF clearance)
  • A good work ethic, eye for detail, and team spirit
  • Respect for the environment you're working in – it’s not your average front lawn

Why work with us?

  • You’ll be part of a solid, supportive team who take pride in their work
  • You’ll work at a unique and important site, supporting those who serve
  • We offer stable employment, good gear, and all the safety support you’d expect
  • We value down-to-earth people who bring their best, every day

Whether you're already working in grounds maintenance or just looking to get your boots on the ground and do something real — this could be your next great move.
