Trades Supervisor

We’re looking for a skilled Trades Supervisor to lead our trade team and subcontractors on the Wellington City Council contract. This is a key leadership role responsible for coordinating the delivery of scheduled and reactive maintenance, ensuring work is completed to a high standard, on time, and in line with all contractual requirements.

About the role

As Trades Supervisor, you’ll oversee scheduled and reactive maintenance work across a wide range of public facilities. You’ll assign jobs, supervise site activity, manage permits and materials, and support your team to meet KPIs — all while promoting a positive, high-performing culture.

You’ll also be the point of coordination for materials procurement, contractor performance, and reporting through our systems. This role calls for someone who enjoys being on the tools occasionally, while keeping one eye on service standards, safety, and team development.

What you’ll be doing:

Supervising and allocating scheduled and reactive maintenance tasks across the trade team and subcontractors

  • Managing materials and permit-to-work processes for maintenance and minor works
  • Supporting project scoping and pricing alongside the Project and Facilities Managers
  • Monitoring team performance and contractor delivery against KPIs
  • Leading safety, quality, and compliance practices on site
  • Coaching, mentoring, and developing trade staff, including performance reviews
  • Ensuring accurate use of work order and timesheet system
  • Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and innovation

What you’ll bring:

  • Trade qualification and at least 5 years’ hands-on trade experience
  • Proven leadership or supervisory experience within a maintenance or FM environment
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to juggle multiple jobs at once
  • A practical understanding of maintenance systems and work order processes
  • Clear, confident communication — both verbal and written
  • A collaborative and accountable mindset with a strong customer focus
  • A full NZ Class 1 driver’s licence
