We are proud to provide logistic and operational support to the US Antarctic Program to enable scientific research in Antarctica. 

In this role, you will

Due to the retirement of a long standing team member we currently have an opportunity for a Procurement Supervisor to join our Christchurch based operation.

Reporting to our Operations Manager, this critical role oversees the procurement of goods and services for the US Antarctic programme in New Zealand and on the ice.  It involves purchasing a wide range of items, from food, medical supplies, machinery parts, specialist scientific items and general goods to support operations in Antarctica, as well as working with a number of service providers, to provide support in New Zealand and engaging subcontractors to deploy to Antarctica to perform a wide range of tasks.

You will manage a team of two experienced buyers who will assist in the day to day procurement while you focus on the larger or more complex jobs.

In this role, you will

  • Be the key point of contact for all procurement activities to support the Antarctic Support Contract
  • Support overall value for money, ensure contract compliance and service outcomes
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with a number of internal and external stakeholders across the globe
  • Prepare any procurement related reporting or analysis as required
  • Contribute to the development of annual and long term contract management plans
  • Leading contract negotiations and running effective RFP processes
  • Work with the Operations Manager to quantify, manage and mitigate risk

To be successful, you will

To be successful you will be an experienced and efficient procurement specialist with excellent people skills, commercial and financial acumen and exemplary work ethics. You will be performance driven, not afraid to roll up your sleeves and will know how to get the best out of your team in order to achieve team and organisational goals.

In addition you will bring the following skills and experience

  • A tertiary qualification, or similar, relevant to purchasing/procurement.
  • Demonstrated experience in the preparation, administration, and management of RFP and contract processes.
  • The ability to facilitate purchasing and/or project delivery outcomes.
  • The ability to apply contract and procurement policies, practises and procedures.
  • Excellent time management, and are process focussed with a strong emphasis on accuracy and continuous improvement
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills
  • Well refined people management capability
